Yeah For Sub Day!

As you know I officially started student teaching last week. I have been doing a lot of observing, writing in weekly folders, grading, other random jobs. Last week I got to take over getting the board ready for the next day (basically writing the next days menu) and my teacher was thrilled that I did such a good job... easy to please? I think so. Anyway I have been trying to remember the daily schedule and get a real handle on things so that I will be ready when I get to start taking over. I wasn't feeling to great about it at the end of last week because I went home and I had already forgotten what we did at the beginning of the week. Well, my teacher unexpectedly took a day off today and we had a sub in our classroom. We both had a copy of the plans for the day, but I didn't think I would get to do much teaching. WRONG! The sub was a guy who just graduated from UNC in December and student teaching was fresh on his mind. He came in and told me that since I knew the routine better than he did he was going to let me do as much teaching as I wanted, plus he thought the kids might behave better with me since they knew me. I got to teach ALL DAY LONG!! It was so much fun. The kids were great for me, I felt like I knew what I was doing, I wasn't nervous at all, and I got to kind of do me own thing as far as teaching style goes. Not that I want my teacher to get sick, but I'll look forward to more sub days in the future.
